Keeping the Holidays Holy (James 1:17-18)

Bo Grace, December 10, 2017
Part of the series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

Since we are in the middle of the holiday season, God wants to speak to us today about something that is very important to Him – and should be to us. The title of this message is: KEEPING THE HOLIDAYS HOLY. We will see that it is much more than listening to Christmas music! Incidentally, where does the word “HOLIDAY” come from? HOLY DAY! Literally, a holiday is to be a “holy day!”

James most likely did not have the holidays in mind when he penned the book that bears his name. His purpose in writing one of the most practical book in the Bible was to challenge us to live lives of faith that is demonstrated by action – in any and all of the up and down circumstances of life. The passage we will focus on today will help us KEEP THE HOLIDAYS HOLY… if we will heed what God tells us.

James 1:17-18

17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. (KJV)
